BFGoodrich vs Bridgestone Tires: In-Depth Comparison

Still confused? Do not worry. BFGoodrich and Bridgestone, both brands market great tires which can be difficult to compare. The detailed sections below will walk you through their subtle differences.

Tread Warranty

Bridgestone tires have a limited mileage warranty, but all BFGoodrich tires have  Standard Manufacturer’s Limited Warranty. Bridgestone gives you 40,000 to 80,000 miles of warranty. Whereas, BFGoodrich gives you a 45,000 limited mileage warranty on all their tires.

Tire Tread Warranty

BFGoodrich covers defects in workmanship and materials for 6 years from the date of purchase. They also provide a 5,000 miles more limited mileage warranty on their Y-rated performance tires than Bridgestone.

The warranty offered by BFGoodrich covers you more than the warranty given by Bridgestone. But Bridgestone’s warranty is better if you are planning on driving little.

Winner: BFGoodrich if you are a frequent driver or purchasing performance tires. Bridgestone if you are a low mileage driver and not buying performance tires.

Comfortable tires give you better ride quality while limiting the road noise produced when driving. Summer touring tires are generally more comfortable than winter or all-season tires. This is because they have shallow grooves and sipes.

BFGoodrich Advantage and Bridgestone Turanza T001 Evo are the most comfortable tires sold by BFGoodrich and Bridgestone respectively.

Both BFGoodrich and Bridgestone can give you similar levels of comfort. The BFGoodrich Advantage is rated by the users at Tyrereviews at 95/100. The Bridgestone Turanza T001 Evo, on the other hand, received 94 out of 100.

Both BFGoodrich Advantage and Bridgestone Turanza T001 Evo will give you great comfort when driving on the road.

Result: Tie.

BFGoodrich tires are more affordable than Bridgestone tires in general depending on tire type and size. BFGoodrich tires, on average, cost about $220, while Bridgestone tires on average cost $260.

Traction on Wet Grounds

In this section, I am using high-performance summer tires for comparison.  High performance summer tires are optimized for wet traction. The grooves and sipes on their tread can quickly evacuate water trapped in the contact patch. This helps avoid hydroplaning.

BFGoodrich gForce Profiler 2 and Bridgestone Potenza Sport are the best wet tires sold by BFGoodrich and Bridgestone respectively.

Tyrereviews users, however, claim Bridgestone tires can provide better wet grip than BFGoodrich tires. The Bridgestone Potenza Sport is rated at 88/100 by the users of Tyrereviews. The BFGoodrich gForce Profiler 2, on the other hand, gets a rating of 85 from them.

Both the Bridgestone Potenza Sport and the BFGoodrich gForce Profiler 2. But the Bridgestone Potenza Sport will give you a bit better grip on rainy days.

 Winner: Bridgestone Tires.

Traction on Dry Grounds (Summer Tires)

Dry traction depends on a lot of different factors. This depends on the composition of the tire and the tread pattern. I am comparing high-performance summer tires for this section. Summer tires have wider grooves and less siping(cuts on the treads), which provide a great dry grip.

BFGoodrich gForce Profiler 2 and Bridgestone Potenza Sport are the best dry tires sold by BFGoodrich and Bridgestone respectively.

Bridgestone tires can give you a bit better dry grip compared to BFGoodrich tires. Users of Tyrereviews rate BFGoodrich gForce Profiler 2 at 92, while Bridgestone Potenza Sport gets 94/100.

Both Bridgestone Potenza Sport and BFGoodrich gForce Profiler 2 are great performance summer tires. But the Bridgestone Potenza Sport gives a slightly better dry grip.

Winner: Bridgestone Tires, but narrowly.

Traction on Icy Grounds (Winter Tires)

As ice has a low friction surface, tires have to be specially designed for driving on ice. Some winter tires have been optimized for specifically driving on ice. BFGoodrich gForce Winter and Bridgestone Blizzak LM25 RFT are the best ice tires sold by BFGoodrich and Bridgestone respectively.

Bridgestone tires can give you a bit better icy grip compared to BFGoodrich tires according to the users of Tyrereviews. The Bridgestone Blizzak LM25 RFT gets 90/100, and the BFGoodrich gForce Winter gets 85/100 from Tyrereviews.

Both Bridgestone Blizzak LM25 RFT and BFGoodrich gForce Winter are studless winter tires. Both are great at driving on ice. But the Bridgestone Blizzak LM25 RFT offers a better ice grip.

Winner: Bridgestone Tires.

Traction on Snowy Grounds (Winter Tires)

Winter tires need to be specially designed, to provide grip on snow-covered surfaces. These tires are made with deeper grooves than summer tires. The rubber material used in these tires is formulated to remain pliable even in subzero temperatures.

Both Bridgestone and BFGoodrich tires can give you exceptional traction on snow. The  BFGoodrich gForce Winter and Bridgestone Blizzak LM25 RFT are the best snow tires sold by BFGoodrich and Bridgestone respectively. Users of Tyrereviews rate both Bridgestone Blizzak LM25 RFT and BFGoodrich gForce Winter as perfect for snow driving.

If you live in a region with heavy snowfall, I suggest getting either a Bridgestone Blizzak LM25 RFT or a BFGoodrich gForce Winter.

Result: Tie.

Road Noise cancellation technology

Bridgestone has better noise cancellation than BFGoodrich Tires. Some Bridgestone tires use Resonance Noise Attenuated silencer grooves(RENOA) technology, while BFGoodrich tires have no proprietary noise reduction technology of their own.

Tires generate roughly 60% of all road noise produced when driving on the highway. Tire noise can be very unpleasant to the passengers of the car. Using specially designed technology on tires can drastically decrease the noise when on the road.

BFGoodrich tires are known for being particularly noisy. Some of them use special tread patterns to curtail some of the noise. But Bridgestone tires are quieter.

Winner: Bridgestone Tires.

Product Range

Bridgestone has more tire lineups compared to BFGoodrich. Bridgestone has 8 tire families. BFGoodrich, on the other hand, has 6.

Aside from this, both BFGoodrich and Bridgestone Tires, over the years, have had several lawsuits against them.

Notable cases against Bridgestone Tires:

  1. Firestone tire recall(2000): This was the biggest recall in Bridgestone history. The company had to recall a total of 6.5 million tires. 174 tragic deaths and more than 7,000 injuries  were attributed to these recalled tires.
  1. Lawsuits over Defective tires(2014): Several lawsuits were filed against Bridgestone over allegations that their tires were defective. These tires were found prone to sudden tread separation at high speeds.

Notable cases against BFGoodrich Tires:

  1. Lawsuits over asbestos exposure in facilities(2004): Thousands of employees at BFGoodrich tire manufacturing plant worked for more than 40 years while exposed to asbestos. The workers were never informed about this. An Asbestos Trust worth $80 million was set up as a part of the settlement.
  2. Tire recall(2012): 841,000 BFGoodrich tires for SUVs and light trucks were recalled after they were found prone to tread separation.
  3. Tire recall(2015): 129,000 BFGoodrich tires were recalled as they were found prone to sudden pressure loss. This would make vehicles go out of control when driving at high speeds.

Both BFGoodrich and Bridgestone have had multiple lawsuits. But the customers of BFGoodrich tires rate their tires slightly better compared to customers of Bridgestone tires.

Winner: BFGoodrich Tires.

Environmental Factor

Bridgestone Tires does more research on sustainable tires compared to BFGoodrich. Bridgestone has a particular lineup of tires for increasing fuel economy. BFGoodrich, likewise, is helping the environment by trying to conserve water in its production facilities.

BFGoodrich has recently upgraded its tire manufacturing plant in Indiana. This will result in an annual water savings of 10 million gallons. They also fund off-road conservation initiatives in an effort to help nature. But their financial aid is insignificant compared to their yearly earnings.

Bridgestone Tires, on the other hand, is researching Guayule for producing sustainable natural rubber. Bridgestone also offers retreading tires across the USA. The Bridgestone ‘Ecopia’ is particularly marketed as a greener tire due to their fuel economy.

Winner: Bridgestone Tires

Resale Value

BFGoodrich tires tend to have better resale value compared to Bridgestone tires for the same tread depth. Bridgestone tires have a resale value of 36%, while BFGoodrich tires retain 44% of their original value.
