Transmission types
The Ford F250, and F350 offer 2 kinds of 10-speed automatic transmissions. In contrast, the Ford F150 offers only one kind of 10 speed automatic transmission and a hybrid 10-speed transmission.
The Ford F150 offers two types of transmissions depending on the engine you get as follows:
- Electronic 10-Speed Automatic Transmission(Standard on all F150 models)
- Hybrid Electronic 10-Speed Automatic Transmission(Only for Full hybrid engine)
The F250 and the F350, in contrast, offer more powerful transmissions because of their more powerful engines. They are:
- TorqShift 10-speed Automatic Transmission
- TorqShift-G 10-speed Automatic Transmission
The TorqShift-G 10-speed Automatic Transmission is optional for the F250 XL and F350 XL but standard on other F250 and F350 trim levels. The TorqShift 10-speed Automatic Transmission, however, is standard for other F250 and F350 trim levels.
Horsepower And Torque
With the F250 and the F350, depending on the engine, you will get a maximum of 405 hp to 500 hp. Likewise, you will get at best 445 lb-ft to 1,200 lb-ft of torque based on the engine you are using. In the case of the F150, you will get 290 hp to 700 hp and 265 lb. ft. to 640 lb. ft. of torque.
This following table lists the maximum torque and horsepower of the Ford F150 depending on the engine you have installed:
Ford F150 Engine Options | Maximum torque (lb-ft) | Maximum horsepower (hp) |
2.7 L EcoBoost V6 | 400 | 325 |

Payload Capacity
The payload capacity of the Ford F150 ranges from 1,400 lbs to 3,315 lbs. For the F250, this value is 2,780 lbs to 4,260 lbs. And for the Ford F350, the payload capacity is 2,990 lbs to 7,850 lbs.
This is the payload capacity of the Ford F150 depending on the engine you install:
Engine Type | Payload Capacity |
3.3 L EcoBoost V6 | 1,955 lbs |
2.7 L EcoBoost V6 | 2,465 lbs |
3.5 L PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6 | 3,235 lbs |
3.5 L PowerBoost V6 | 2,120 lbs |

5.0 L Ti-VCT V8 | 3,315 lbs |
5.2 L High Output Supercharged V8 | 1,400 lbs |
The payload of the F250, however, depends on the GVWR or Gross Vehicle Weight Rating and the wheelbase length.
The GVWR is the maximum weight that the Ford has been designed to carry. This includes the weight of the passengers, additional accessories and the weight of the fuel.
The wheelbase length, on the other hand, is the distance between the centers of the front wheel and the rear wheel.
Moreover, the number of rear wheels and the drivetrain configuration can also impact the payload capacity. Having Double Rare Wheels or DRW increases the payload capacity compared to having Single Rear Wheel or SRW.
A 4×2 drivetrain will also have more payload capacity compared to a 4×4 drivetrain. The variation in payload capacity of the F250 depending on the GVWR, the drivetrain configuration and the wheelbase length is shown here:
F250 Drivetrain and the number of rear wheels | GVWR(lbs) | 141.6 inchesWheel Base(Regular Cab)(lbs) | 148.0 inchesWheel Base (Super Cab)(lbs) | 164.2 inchesWheel Base (Super Cab)(lbs) | 159.8 inchesWheel Base (Crew Cab)(lbs) | 176.0 inchesWheel Base (Crew Cab)(lbs) |
SRW 4×2 | 9,900 to 10,800 | 3,850 to 4,260 | 3,580 to 3,980 | 3,440 to 3,870 | 3,460 to 3,880 | 3,230 to 3,650 |
SRW 4×4 | 9,900 to 10,800 | 3,270 to 3,820 | 3,170 to 3,550 | 3,050 to 3,460 | 3,060 to 3,470 | 2,780 to 3,210 |
The following table illustrates the payload capacity of the F350 depending on the number of rear wheels, the drivetrain configuration, and the GVWR:
F350 Drivetrain and the number of rear wheels | GVWR(lbs) | 141.6 inchesWheel Base(Regular Cab)(lbs) | 148.0 inchesWheel Base (Super Cab)(lbs) | 164.2 inchesWheel Base (Super Cab)(lbs) | 159.8 inchesWheel Base (Crew Cab)(lbs) | 176.0 inchesWheel Base (Crew Cab)(lbs) |
SRW 4×2 | 10,000 to 11,500 | 3,930 to 4,500 | 3,800 to 4,350 | 3,690 to 4,540 | 3,650 to 4,290 | 3,420 to 4,460 |

DRW 4×4 | 13,000 to 14,000 | 6,210 to 7,210 | N/A | 5,770 to 6,770 | N/A | 5,530 to 6,530 |
Towing Capacity
The towing capacity of the Ford F150 ranges from 8,200 lbs to 14,000 lbs. Whereas, for the F250, this value is 12,500 lbs to 22,000 lbs. Finally, for the Ford F350, the towing capacity is 12,300 lbs to 35,200 lbs.
The towing capacity of the F150 depends largely on the engine being used as shown in this table:
Engine Type | Towing Capacity (lbs) |
3.3 L EcoBoost V6 | 8,200 |
2.7 L EcoBoost V6 | 10,100 |
3.5 L PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6 | 14,000 |
3.5 L PowerBoost V6 | 12,700 |
3.5 L High Output EcoBoost V6 | 8,200 |
5.0 L Ti-VCT V8 | 13,000 |
5.2 L High Output Supercharged V8 | 8,700 |
The towing capacity of the F250 depends on the engine, the axle ratio and the GCWR or the Gross Combined Weight Rating. The GCWR is the maximum weight allowed to be carried by the loaded tow vehicle and the loaded trailer together. Likewise, the axle ratio refers to the number of revolutions made by the drive shaft compared to the axle.
“Conventional Weight Carrying” is a measure of towing capacity. It refers to the amount of weight that can be towed by the truck when the trailer is connected to its hitch ball.
A “weight distribution hitch” is a type of hitch used in towing. It distributes the total weight of a trailer to the axles of the vehicle and the trailer. This can increase your towing capacity without having to be installed on the bed of your truck.
A ”gooseneck hitch” is a type of ball hitch that is installed to the bed of a truck. 5th wheel hitches are larger in size and use hinged plates instead. These hitches can increase the towing capacity of your truck significantly.
Here is the towing capacity of the F250 depending on the hitch that you will use:
Engine | Drivetrain | Axle Ratio | GCWR (lbs) | Conventional Weight Carrying (lbs) | Weight Distribution (lbs) | 5th Wheel/Gooseneck (lbs) |
6.2L Gas | SRW/4×2 | 3.73 to 4.30 | 19,500 to 22,000 | 13,000 to 14,000 | 13,000 to 15,000 | 13,000 to 15,500 |

Similarly, here is the towing capacity of the Ford F350:
Drivetrain | Engine | GCWR (lbs) | Conventional Weight Carrying (lbs) | Weight Distribution (lbs) | 5th Wheel/Gooseneck (lbs) |
SRW | 6.2L Gas | 19,500 to 23,500 | 12,700 to 16,500 | 12,700 to 16,500 | 12,700 to 16,600 |

It will raise an alarm or even apply the brakes for you if it detects a potential collision.
Lane Centering
The lane centering system is available as a standard feature to all F150 trims except the F150 XL. In comparison, this feature comes with only the Limited trim level of both the F250 and the F350.
This feature helps you keep your vehicle from invading another lane when you get distracted.
