If the IPR valve fails to pressurize the oil adequately, you’ll find the vehicle cranking for a long time when you prompt it to start.

What to do If You Have a Faulty IPR Valve?

If you feel that you have a faulty IPR valve, you should test it right away. The easiest way would be to check the IPR duty cycle percentage. When the IPR is fully opened after starting, it’ll remain around 15%. Once closed, it’ll be at 85%.

If the percentage is higher than 30% when it’s fully opened, there might be a leak. In this case, you can check whether you can repair the leak or not.

Will Replacing a IPR be Expensive?

Yes, replacing an IPR can be moderately expensive as these cost around $200. However, the price may be different based on the vendor you’re getting it from.

This is because once the ICP reads the pressure of the fuel, it reports the readings back to the central computer. This, in turn, commands the IPR to fine-tune the pressure. If the reading is faulty, the IPR won’t function properly.

4. How Do You Test A 6.0 ICP Sensor?

The best way to test a 6.0 ICP sensor would be to use a Forscan. These tools are expensive, but they’re mostly accurate. There are some cheaper tools that show you the pressure. However, these are often inaccurate as the pressure is mostly inferred.
